About Spotcheck

Spotcheck is built and operated by John Merchant, a developer based in Australia. There’s no parent company, no investors, and no relationship — financial or otherwise — with any energy retailer.

Why this exists

Every retailer has a calculator. Most of them aren’t really running a simulation — they extrapolate from a recent average price, or a hand-picked month, in a way that flatters the answer the retailer wants you to reach. Spotcheck runs a full year of real wholesale prices against your actual setup, and sometimes the answer is don’t switch. See how it works for the methodology.

Partnerships

Open to partnerships with installers, retailers, and other organisations working on the energy transition — provided the arrangement doesn’t compromise the independence of the verdict. Examples that fit: battery payback modelling for VPP operators and aggregators, an embeddable API, or research using real post-switch bills. Get in touch below.
