Terms of use

Spotcheck is a free, independent tool. These are the terms under which you use it. Last updated 2026-05-09.

Estimates aren’t guarantees

The number Spotcheck produces is the best honest estimate the simulation can reach given the inputs you provide. Real household bills are affected by network rules, retailer promotions, weather variation, behavioural change, and edge-case dispatch behaviour we don’t model. Use the number as a guide, not a guarantee, and never as your sole basis for a major financial decision. If you’re thinking about a switch worth thousands of dollars, get a second opinion.

No warranty

Spotcheck is provided as-is and as-available, without warranty of any kind. We don’t guarantee uptime, accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose. We’ll do our best to keep it running and honest, but we can’t promise it.

No advice

Nothing on this site is financial, energy, or legal advice. We’re a calculator. If you need advice for your specific situation, talk to someone qualified to give it.

Acceptable use

  • Don’t scrape the site, automate submissions, or try to circumvent the CAPTCHA / rate limits. Compute isn’t free.
  • Don’t use the service to mislead anyone — for example, fabricating a share link to imply Spotcheck recommended something it didn’t.
  • Don’t attempt to break the service.

Liability

To the maximum extent allowed by Australian law, Spotcheck and its operator are not liable for any loss, cost, or damage arising from your use of the site, including any decisions you make based on its output. Your statutory rights as an Australian consumer aren’t affected.

Changes

We may update these terms as the product evolves. Material changes will bump the “last updated” date at the top of this page.
